Valeriia Vertii was born in Ukraine in Poltava region, her parents moved to Bucha when she was 4 years old. There Valeriia spent her childhood surrounded by nature in a quiet suburb of Kiev. At the age of 14 she began studying at the Taras Shevchenko Art School in Kyiv. Then she entered the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture in Kyiv, where she get master's degree two months before the beginning of the war in Ukraine. While studying Valeria has participated in group exhibitions and fairs in Ukraine and Europe. Currently she is temporarily staying in Paris, continuing her artistic practice and volunteering. Now Valeria is involved in several art projects in support of Ukraine in Munich, Paris and Barcelona.
Valeriia works with themes of finding identity, people's awareness of themself and their place, as well as physicality and ephemerality. Botanical or zoomorphic forms and textures are often used in the works as a constant mention of unity with nature and purity of perception in childhood. Recently the artist is working with gesso on wooden panels, this technique has long been used to create icons. It requires the preparation of a plane for painting and refers to the origins of these new digital times.
